Call to Worship: The Lighting of the Candle of Joy (In unison) Liturgist
Soon we shall celebrate the birth of Jesus. We worship God with joy in our hearts as we are reminded of the words the angel said on that first Christmas Day: “Behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will come to all people.”
John 15: 9-11 Pastor Eugenia
The Lighting of the 4th Advent Candle: Joy Pastor Eugenia
We light this candle to proclaim the coming of the light of God into the world. With the coming of this light there is joy; joy that is ours not only on Christmas but always. (The lighting of the Hope, Peace, Love and Joy candles.)
Prayer of Adoration (In unison )
O Holy One, as Christmas draws near, there is a sense of excitement in the air. We can feel a joy in our lives and see it in those around us. Still for some of us this is a sad time because of unhappy things that have happened in our lives. Help us to have the joy that does not depend on earthly happiness but on you. Help us to be filled with your joy so that we may share it with a joyless world. Amen.
Opening Hymn # 101 No Wind at the Window
Prayer of Confession Liturgist
(In unison) God our beloved parent, Mary said “yes” and you changed history. A young mother, in a time of uncertainty gave birth to the Prince of Peace. Search our hearts now. Are we making room for the birth of the Christ? Are we preparing a place for him to dwell and reign in our hearts? Lord, what do we need to resolve, or do, to say “yes”? Hear our quiet concerns and confessions now…
(In unison) Lord help us to look upon the radiance of the Christ child in the manger and say “yes” to letting him live in our hearts, so that we may live always to strengthen his body and to serve your kingdom. Amen.
