† Call to Worship: The Lighting of the Candle of Peace (In unison) Liturgist
We gather around the Advent wreath today knowing that we are not perfect—that we all make mistakes and do bad things. Only Jesus obeyed God fully. Jesus helps us to live as God want us to live. Jesus gives peace.
Isaiah 9:6-7 Pastor Eugenia
For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace for the throne of David and his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time onward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
The Lighting of the 2nd Advent Candle: Peace Pastor Eugenia
We light this candle to proclaim the coming of the light of God into the world. With
the coming of this light there is peace, for Christ is called the “Prince of Peace.”
Christ’s name is also Emmanuel, “God with us.” The presence of Christ with us
gives us peace day by day.
Prayer of Adoration (In unison )
Eternal God, we thank you for our peace. Help us to experience your peace in our lives and in our world. We pray that, in this Advent season we may, by what we do, show your presence to the sick, to the hungry, and to the lonely, so that they too may have peace. Amen.
†Hymn of Praise # 104 O Lord, How Shall I Meet You
Prayer of Confession (In unison)
Great God, Father of light, we seek your help. In this season of the watch, awaiting the radiance of the Christ, we ask that you strip away all of our battle weariness, all of our scars of life, the hardening of our hearts. Make us like the children who sat at the knee of Jesus. Help us to leave our cynicism, doubts, fears, worries, and anxieties at his feet. Attune our hearts to the wonder of your gift. To help us make room in our hearts, please hear our silent confessions… (In unison) God we seek to be renewed again, filled with hope, and made alive by the Christ child. In his precious name we pray. Amen
