January 2019 Daily Scripture and Prayer
1st – read 1 John 3:18 “Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.”
Prayer: Help me this day, O God of Love, to turn my love for you toward love for your people. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
2nd – read 2 Timothy 2:11-12 “If we have died with him, we will also live with him.”
Prayer: Gracious God help me today to remember that all is well because I am with you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
3rd – read Psalm 51 “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love”
Prayer: Gracious God, fill me today with loving reminders of your mercy toward me and all those I love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
4th – read 2 Corinthians 3:4-6 “Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God.”
Prayer: Gracious God, today I don’t feel very confident. Help me to
remember that my confidence lies in you and not in what I am able to accomplish or manage. Remind me that you will never fail me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
5th – read Hosea 11:1-4 “When Israel was a child, I loved him”
Prayer: You, O God, have always been faithful in your love for me. Help me to rely upon you again today. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
6th – read Ezekiel 37:1-14 “He said to me, ‘Mortal, can these bones live?’ I answered, ‘O Lord God you know.’”
Prayer: Lord, I am tired today. Please breathe new life into me so that I may worship you with energy, imagination and love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
7th – read Psalm 112 “Praise the Lord! Happy are those who fear the Lord, who greatly delight in his commandments.”
Prayer: Gracious God, it is so good to praise you! Plant your word and ways in me today so that I may love you rightly. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
8th – read 1 Kings 19:1-12 “after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of sheer silence.”
Prayer: Help me today, O God, to hear the tiny whispering sounds of your presence with me and those I love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
9th – read Psalm 90 “Lord you have been our dwelling place in all generations.”
Prayer: Lord, today I fell that my world has gotten so small. I am wrapped up in my problems and pains. Release me with reminders that my home is always vast in you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
10th – read Hebrews 6:17-20 “We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul”
Prayer: Renew my hope in you today, O God, so that I may feel its anchoring strength. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer: Dear God, I am a worrier and I need your help to let it go. Fill me today with your wonderful peace and help me to trust you with my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
12th – read John 14:25-31 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.”
Prayer: God of peace, we live in a warring world. Even my own spirit is disturbed and unquiet. Fill me today with your peace so that I can have it to share with others. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
13th – read John 20: 22 “When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them; ‘Receive the Holy Spirit’”
Prayer: Breathe your Holy Spirit into me, O God. I desire to know your presence. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
14th – read Matthew 7:24 “‘Everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.’”
Prayer: Thank you, God, for speaking to me of your ways. Help me to hear and establish me on solid ground. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
15th – read Genesis 18:14 “Is anything too wonderful for the Lord?”
Prayer: Gracious God, nothing is too wonderful with you! Help me today to remember your wonders in my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
16th – read Genesis 26:6-13 “Isaac sowed seed in that land, and in the same year reaped a hundredfold.”
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for the good harvest you bring in me. Help me today to sow good seed and trust in your provision. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
17th – read Matthew 5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Prayer: Thank you, My God, for creating a hunger for you in my spirit. I crave your presence and your rule in my life. You are my greatest blessing. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
18th – read Matthew 5:4 “’Blessed are those that mourn, for they will be comforted.’”
Prayer: God of compassion, I have known many losses in my life. You have always been my comforter. Comfort me anew today. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
19th – read Matthew 5:5 “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
Prayer: Help me, O God, with gentle confidence to accept your way with me. And, once accepting, help me to understand my responsibility toward others. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
20th – read Matthew 5:6 “’Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
Prayer: God of all Holiness, fill me with a new hunger for holiness in my own life. Satisfy me fully with your word. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
21st – read Philippians 4:19-20 “And my God will fully satisfy every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
Prayer: O God, your promises are sure and they are enough for me. Satisfy my need today, O Lord, for only you are able. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
22nd – read Matthew 5:8 “’Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.’”
Prayer: Remove all hardness in me, O God. And create in me a blameless heart. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
23rd – read Matthew 5: 9 “’Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
Prayer: Make me, O God, into the peace I yearn for in the world. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
24th – read Ecclesiastes 9:7 “’Go, eat your bread with enjoyment, and drink your wine with a merry heart;’”
Prayer: Gracious God, today I know joy in the simple things of life. Thank you, dear God, and please increase my gratitude. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
25th – read Ezekiel 37 1-14 “’I will put my spirit within you, and you shall live,’”
Prayer: Every breath is a gift of your Spirit, O God. Remind me today that you give me life and keep me safe. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
26th – read Genesis – 28:15 “Know that I am with you and will keep you wherever you go.”
Prayer: Gracious God, my life journey has been long and winding. Thank you for accompanying me and for your promise to stay by my side. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
27th – read Hosea 14 “They shall again live beneath my shadow, they shall flourish as a garden; they shall blossom like the vine.”
Prayer: You, O God, have tended me like a garden with just what I need. Thank you for your tender care of me and for the blessing of my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
28th – read Luke 1:37 “For nothing will be impossible with God.”
Prayer: Gracious God, I have seen your power in my life. Remind me this day that there is nothing we cannot face together. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
29th – read Jeremiah 31:25 “I will satisfy the weary, and all who are faint I will replenish.”
Prayer: Glorious God, my spirit is a little weary today. Some days life seems a bit much. Replenish me today and renew my joy.” In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
30th – read John 14:1-7 “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life.’”
Prayer: You are my Way, Lord. Help me today to follow you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
31st – read Psalm 29 “May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace!”
Prayer: Gracious God, your voice sings around the globe. Love swirls around you. Help us, your people, to hear you and join in your song. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
